WHAT IS IdBIS?

IdBIS: Intelligent dataBases and Information  Systems

TIC174

IdBIS is a research group in the area of Information Technology and Systems founded in January 1998 by 12 researchers and teaching staff belonging to the Department of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence of Granada University (Spain). At the present, the group is constituted by 16 members.

Information Technology has acquired an increasing importance in the recent years, providing a wider area of study, from the Classical Database Models to the Advanced Database Models, such as Logic, Deductive and Object Oriented Models. Furthermore, the need of representing and processing imprecise information, due to the human subjectivity and expressiveness in these models, have leaded us to the consideration and inclusion of the Fuzzy Logic for handling such information. Thus, one of our main objectives is the study of these Database Models as well as the Intelligent Information Systems in general, going deeply into the study of the imprecise information processing.

The management panorama demands the appearance of new researching areas such as the Data Mining and the Knowledge Discovery. By means of the searching of regularities in the Information Systems, the association rules are extracted in order to proportion additional knowledge no stored explicitly. The combination of these studies with Soft Computing techniques applied to Information Retrieval Systems and retrieval processes in the Internet provides a appropriate framework wide enough to cover all the Information Technology areas of study.

In this web site, the most relevant information developed by our working group in the last ten years can be found. In addition, related links and interesting news about our researching topics are included.
